Which one is better for under cabinet lighting? Led Puck Lights or Led Strip Lights?

When we decorate our homes, we will consider under cabinet lighting. There are so many types for under cabinet lighting, such as led puck lights, led strip lights and led panel lights, etc. LED puck lights and LED strip lights can be used inside or underneath a cabinet. But which one is better? Today we may get some ideas.

Features

The LED strip lights are low voltage requiring a driver (transformer) in a hidden location. The LED puck lights are available in line voltage direct wire or low voltage with a driver depending on the brand. Both led puck lights and strip lights are common under cabinet applications.

Led Puck Lights

Led puck lights got its name from the hockey sport. It's a round disk that looks similar to a hockey puck. Led puck lights were popular back in the 80's and 90's. Since then, technology has changed and there are more ways to light your cabinets. Led puck lights were harder to install because you had to chain link the lights together from one to another similar to recessed lights. Now we have a new type of Led puck lights, that is triangel led puck lights.

Led Strip Lights

Comparison

LED puck lights are nice for inside a glass shelf cabinet. It can be recessed for a less noticeable look or surface mounted for easier installation. The LED strip lights can be used in many different applications. Personally, I like the LED strip lights better than the Led puck lights.

The LED strip lights illuminates the whole area and doesn’t create any shadows. The Led puck lights create a scallop shadow around the light fixture. If you have a nice backsplash to highlight or you don’t want to see shadows from the light fixture, you may want to lean towards the Led strip lights.
